This month we were very excited to have the pleasure of chatting with Shannon Hamilton from The Social Pops! Our stunning Dried Edible Flowers have traveled across the globe to Shannon who is based in Cobourg, Ontario. After seeing and sharing her amazing creations on our socials we couldn't wait to find out more.

Let’s start with the basics. Please introduce yourself, your business, and tell us a bit about what you do.

My name is Shannon Hamilton, and my business name is ‘The Social Pops’

At The Social Pops we create deliciously fun cakepops and lollipops for all ages and events!

Tell us about your story, how long have you been running The Social Pops, and how did you start?

My journey all starts with my visual arts background and my love for food. I used to make lollipops for fun and some of my friends told me I should transform my hobby into a business. A few months later a close friend showed me how to make cakepops and everything snowballed in a hurry from there! A month later The Social Pops made its debut at a Bridal Show in our hometown of Cobourg Ontario, Canada in January 2018. All 500 cakepops were happily devoured and business has been booming ever since!

Your favourite cooking/baking ingredient, and why it’s your favourite:

That would have to be chocolate! There are so many fascinating things you can create with chocolate and I’m always learning and exploring new techniques. The possibilities are endless.

Your favourite Petite Ingredient flower, and why it’s your favourite:

That’s a very tough question!! With living in Canada I am sadly limited to your dried flower menu, but the quality is exceptional so I don’t mind! I would have to say my favourite are the dried rose buds! Many people are fascinated by them especially in the lolli’s as they appear floating encased in glass.. a total beauty and the beast moment. A close second is the fuchsia flower! They have this amazing sculptural quality that you can play with its form by slightly opening it up.

Who/What inspires you?

I'm a huge believer in supporting local and I’m easily inspired by the many entrepreneurs in our area. When it comes to edible creations I would say most of my inspiration comes from nature. I'm also fascinated by people's nostalgia and I like to bring back that joy.

Three key words that describe your style:

Fresh, colourful and elevated

What are your daily must-haves?

Warm cozy drinks, my planner/notebook (I don't know where i'd be without it) and Atticus my Mini Australian Shepard puppy!

Name something you can’t live without:

My camera!

We'd like to say a HUGE thank-you to Shannon from 'The Social Pops' for sharing her amazing insights!
